The wonderfully playful work of jeweler and painter Kathleen Faulkner is featured in the annual holiday show at the Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle.
What I like most about Faulkner's work is that she makes miniature paintings or drawings and combines them with found objects to create some very pretty pieces. Here are some of my favorites.
'My Aleut Friend' brooch: sterling silver, found objects, fossilized walrus ivory, printer's ink
'The Ayes Have It' neckpiece: colored pencil, paper, mica, sterling silver
'Birds of a Feather' neckpiece: sterling silver, colored pencil, paper, glass lens, onyx beads
'Polar Bear' ornament: sterling silver, paper, colored pencil, mica (designed for the Ornament Give Away during the Holiday Show Opening at the Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery)
'New Growth Series' brooch: fossilized walrus ivory, printer's ink, sterling silver
Glass Shard Earrings: beach glass and sterling silver
This is fun work that draws inspiration from Faulkner's island surroundings in Washington State. You can see more of her creations at Kathleen Faulkner's Art Talk Blog and (through December) at the Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle, WA.
