Susan Comer creates one-of-a-kind wearable art 'tippets' (old English name for scarves or shawls) out of deconstructed vintage garments. She sculpts the tippets on a mannequin and then embellishes them with curios, vintage jewelry, pieces of leather and any other interesting things that inspire her. “When I create a tippet, I look at it like a sculpture. The fabric or garment dictates what I do.” The beautiful silk tippet (left) with leather thong and buttons was a originally a blouse. The elegant black piece (below), made out of silk satin and embroidery satin bow, was originally a skirt that Comer transformed into a tippet for Hollywood actress Tilda Swinton. Comer will create pieces on request using fabric or garments of your choice. She will be launching new work at the Liverpool Design Festival Fashion Lab from October 30 through November 1.
