'Signs of Life' is an annual show (with printed catalog) opening on October 7, 2009 at the Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle, Washington. The aim of the show is to pair 9 jewelry artists with 9 writers. Even though I couldn't find any tie-ins to writers, I enjoyed the works selected for the show.
Here are some pieces that stand out. The 'Red Upholstery Brooch' (left), by Texas metalsmith Diane Falkenhagen, is made from carved corian and sterling silver. Doesn't the corian look like real upholstery? 'Red Upholstery' is on the cover of the current issue of Metalsmith Magazine.
In some ways the coolest pieces are those by New York jeweler Aliyah Gold, who made the amazing 'Swarm Necklace' (below) from leather and bronze. Be sure to check out the bees hovering around the honeycomb collar. Gold also made the playful, 'The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg' necklace (bottom photo) out of wood and stainless steel. Intrigued? Go to Facèré to see more.

Hives, indeed! Love your play on words.

I can't get over how the artist makes the corian look like a plump wad of padded paper. Amazing stuff!
