Karen Gilbert's work is about the exploration of materials and
the creation of jewelry that reflects the functional forms found in nature and the human body. Gilbert says, "I see my work from two sides. One is the exploration of materials such as sterling silver, glass and steel. The other is the content of my ideas. Both sides pull together to create my voice." I love the way Gilbert combines metal with beads to create elegant works. The arrangement of the beads making up the earrings (left) is pretty but when you add the metal around the posts with the beads on top you have a very distinctive look. The neckpiece (right) is a lovely combination of sterling silver, stainless steel and various stones. What do you think? You can see more at Karen Gilbert.
Thanks for your comment. The angular lines you point out take the eye from top to bottom of the earrings. Ah the notes, that is a creative observation - my husband thought of fruits hanging from a vine.

Yes, I like the way the beads create a flow of angular lines too in the earrings and how the pendants hang like notes on a music staff.
