Jule Knuepfer Designs

Jule Knuepfer is a young German designer who likes to create clothing out of organic materials in the forms of animal habitats like nests, caves, and sea creatures. Referring to her work as 'Nature Art' or 'Ecological Art', Knuepfer focuses on materials, preferring ecologically grown bamboo, organic cotton and wool from organic farms to bring her ecology-based visions to life. Plastic Creations by Anoush

Anoush Waddington creates wearable, sculptural, contemporary jewelry and fashion accessories from her London-based studio. Anoush is best known for her work with polypropylene, a light weight plastic. She was the first to creatively use and dye polypropylene and other plastics, overcoming technical issues others faced. Her creative use of plastics combined with bold, dramatic designs have earned Anoush a number of international awards and recognition. Avant Garbage by Walter Raes

The Sunday Times of London recently referred to the designs of Walter Raes as 'Avant Garbage.' I agree and couldn't resist using their label here. Walter Raes, who works in London, has as his obsession creating wearable and design art entirely from household and industrial materials. Raes says, "I think what is thrown away in London and around the world is criminal; it's from these consumer society throw-outs, that I make my designs." Pictured here is the SHAMAN COAT made out of mops and rope. Colored Pencil Jewelry by Maria Cristina Bellucci

Can you guess what this unusual, beautiful ring is made of? Try colored pencils, wood and silver. Italian artist Maria Cristina Bellucci, who made this ring, started out as a costume designer. She developed an interest in contemporary jewelry and dedicated herself to creating her own collections. She also works in precious metals but it's her wood jewelry that I adore. Bellucci's work was just featured as part of an exhibit celebrating the Month of Design in Slovenia. See more work by Bellucci at Klimt02.

Rodarte

California sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, known for their whimsical, ultra-feminine, painstakingly hand-crafted designs, have won a number of awards in the fashion industry since launching their Rodarte label in the fall of 2005. One of their evening dresses (left), made out of hand-dyed silk gauze, is being featured as part of the GOTHIC DARK GLAMOUR show at the New York Fashion Institute of Technology through February 21, 2009.
