Munich-based artist and lecturer Shari Pierce creates jewelry and
clothing out of cardboard. In fact, due to her use of cardboard, I consider her works more art than jewelry - but this is open to interpretation. This necklace is made from cardboard, 'found' pink house paint and a fake gold chain. For clothing, Pierce uses second hand clothes, dips them in house paint, and inserts cardboard to create strange shapes. She chooses cardboard because it is often used in protest movements. Does the use of cardboard make her work subversive? These pieces are from Pierce's 'Cardboard Democracy Series'. Much of the jewelry from this series doesn't even look like it's made from cardboard - which is one reason why I like it so much. You can see more on Shari Pierce's Website.
